Kofi Annan: The Question of Legacy

One weighty question serious leaders ask themselves is this – “What will be my leadership legacy?” At the end of the day, all our so-called achievements, acquisitions and awards will disappear into the dustbin of nothingness but what will continue to speak volumes about us will be the positive impact we made on the lives of people within our space and under our leadership. As endowed as Africa is, we are still unable to unleash our potential because we have a dearth of legacy-conscious leaders – leaders who would sacrifice the ultimate for the immediate. Do We Need More of Tinubu’s Tigers? by Idowu Omisore

For a long time I wondered at the term “Asian Tigers”, whenever I come across it in different kinds of literature. In the chrysalis of my imagination, I made conjectures about the meaning of the phrase. But one day, I took time to do a little research, and that ended my wrestle with the enigmatic expression. A Patriot’s Mesmerizing Ripples!

I have been privileged to travel to a couple of countries, some in real life and others in my dreams. Out of the 195 countries in the world today, I seriously doubt if there is another country, aside from Nigeria, whose government and citizens urgently need to arise to do things differently. This piece is not about the sad appraisal we received about the country as having the highest number of the poorest people in the world, displacing India, as recently reported by Brookings Institution. Who doesn’t know the enormity of this disturbingly ridiculous statistics? How can a very rich country have very poor citizens? I’ve always felt that Nigeria is more of a conundrum than a country. No thanks to the enormous scale of corruption! Continue reading “A Patriot’s Mesmerizing Ripples!”

Creativity: Fighting the Dearth of ‘Achebes’

Nigeria is endowed with literary giants, some still living while some have passed on. Professor Wole Soyinka became the first black African to receive the Nobel Laureate Prize in Literature in 1986. But in 1958, late Professor Chinua Achebe had presented his first book “Things Fall Apart”, which has now been described as the most widely read book in modern African literature. Though departed from the land of the mortals, he is arguably one of the lustrous icons of creativity and innovation in the world.

On Saturday, April 21, 2018, the World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID) will be officially celebrated for the first time. Continue reading “Creativity: Fighting the Dearth of ‘Achebes’”

M.K.O ABIOLA: Idowu Omisore, Author & Inspirational Speaker, Presents 12 Lessons from June 12 (Must-Read)!

“History is a deep well of wisdom, for those who are patient and determined to draw out its treasures”.  – Idowu Omisore

June 12, 1993 has evolved from an ordinary day to an extraordinary metaphor that throws up deep lessons for the nation and for us as individuals.

If we think deeply, we will catch deep insights that can benefit us as we all pursue our dreams of greatness.

Like the title suggests, let’s look at twelve lessons we can learn from the June 12 metaphor.

LESSON 1: DREAMS CAN GET SHATTERED!

Yes, dreams can get shattered. One can have beautiful dreams and watch those dreams stream away. It does happen in life, but we must never be discouraged. We must keep dreaming. When one dream is shattered, dream a bigger one and keep your life on a fast lane. This advice makes more sense when the dreamer is still alive. Sadly, in the case of our beloved Bashorun M.K.O Abiola, he didn’t get the chance to dream again as he died and his dream of becoming the President of Nigeria died with him. Though he is long dead, he is honoured today as one of the martyrs of democracy in Nigeria. My prayer is that none of us will die with our dreams. Your dreams will not be shattered by the grace of God. Amen. Continue reading “M.K.O ABIOLA: Idowu Omisore, Author & Inspirational Speaker, Presents 12 Lessons from June 12 (Must-Read)!”
